Copper. I love copper in almost any application but I think it’s especially slick on a fireplace. One of my favorite attributes of copper is the way its finish changes over time. Copper is not only a beautiful facing choice but a conversation piece in any room. $5.000 to $8.000 for materials fabrication and installation.

Keep the glass box glass. On the outside the metal chimney remains the vertical totem it has always been. But now the glass wall can span up over and in front of the chimney. There's no need to have a chimney that breaks up and separates the elevation into pieces.

A slab of marble granite or another solid surface creates a dramatic and minimalist aesthetic. Make sure to hand select your slab and discuss the best area to cut with your installer. Try to take advantage of veining that creates a focal point. Around $7.000 to $10.000 for the slab fabrication and installation. This facing is among the higher-priced ones.

An ottoman in the closet - what a great idea! This simple addition - which doesn't take up too much space in this admittedly huge walk-in - is so functional. Plus it gives the closet a dressing room feeling that gives whole new meaning to "shopping in your closet".

I love a good fireplace. If you are a member of the always-cold club you know what I’m talking about. Sitting in front of a roaring fire is my idea of cozy. Whether you love the smell and crackle of a wood-burning fireplace or the ease of a gas-burning one choosing the right facing is a big decision.

There are plenty of stylish and wonderful media storage that would help you keep your data safe and sound. Surely you would be absolutely horrified to see your DVDs or CDs scratched and damaged beyond use after pulling it out of your little storage box. Proper media storage cabinets would ensure this nightmare would never happen in you at all.

The ottoman as a footrest. Many people love to stretch their legs out when sitting. Whether they are reading a book watching TV or simply resting or napping people like to elevate their feet and legs. The biological effect is to reduce the stress on the heart in pumping blood up through the non-return valves in the veins of their legs by keeping your legs raised your heart has less work to do and you consequently use less energy so can relax easier. The padded top of an ottoman permit you to do this comfortably and many use this type of furniture with their recliner rather than use the footrest that comes with the furniture.

I love this yellow quilted piece. It's got a Mies Barcelona vibe brightened by vibrant color that's a fantastic fit with the white room and gorgeous view. This is a great example of how one low piece of furniture can add a whole new aesthetic dimension to a space.

While it may not seem practical to place items in front of the TV to block it (after all it is meant to be seen at least some of the time) keep in mind that the TV doesn’t necessarily need to be hidden from all angles. A chair placed between you and the TV will hide it (at least partially) when people are traversing the hallways and passing by so the screen is at least hidden when you aren’t plopped down on the sofa. Note that pushing a TV into the back of a deep bookshelf will similarly minimize it from many angles making this technique doubly effective.
