There are many types of ottomans that might suit one's home and purpose and give the room the charm one is looking for. They are available in all sizes - starting from standard size to small and even to oversize. Many beautiful ottomans are covered with leather. They are mostly used as storage benches and footrests are constructed with a sturdy hardwood frame. They are mostly wrapped with luxurious leather or beautiful designer fabrics.

To be functional an ottoman's height should precisely match the height of the sofa or chair that you will occupy while using it. Ottomans should be chosen in consideration of those who will most use them. For some a light ottoman will provide all the support needed. For others a larger wider piece is a better choice.

While it may not seem practical to place items in front of the TV to block it (after all it is meant to be seen at least some of the time) keep in mind that the TV doesn’t necessarily need to be hidden from all angles. A chair placed between you and the TV will hide it (at least partially) when people are traversing the hallways and passing by so the screen is at least hidden when you aren’t plopped down on the sofa. Note that pushing a TV into the back of a deep bookshelf will similarly minimize it from many angles making this technique doubly effective.

Consider having your screen mounted on the wall instead of perched on top of a cabinet. This way the screen will be less obvious and the space can be used like a typical living room with the option of enjoying a superior home cinema experience when you have a film to watch.

A rectangular ottoman fits in well with an L-shape sectional. The longer width allows more people to use it. If you need storage choose one with a hollow center.

A square ottoman looks great with a sectional that has equal lengths on both sides as well as U-shape sofas.
